Susan also writes fiction under the name Mary Elizabeth Thomas. Her novel An Outlaw for Christmas begins The Colorado Chronicles, a time-travel romance set in Colorado Springs.

It follows archaeologist Madison Kabe as a search takes her into the past, where she meets a United States Marshal pursuing the same outlaw.
